The New York Road Runners have responded to the highlighted racial inequity in our country by creating a way for New York’s running community to actively support the Black Lives Matter movement. The NYRR is hosting a virtual race, only one mile, that you can register for online. You do not have to be a runner or athlete to participate, as walking one mile is acceptable for this too!

Virtual races allow people in many different locations to participate in the same event, providing a safe way to fundraise remotely as we recover from COVID-19. Additionally, there are a span of dates so that you can participate according to your schedule. Money raised from this race will be going to a variety of charities, including a legal defense organization and community support. You can read more about each cause on the website

All of the registration information can be found in the links above, including how both children and adults can participate. I encourage everyone in the WESS community to join me in this virtual race, and if not, continue to be aware and informed on the injustices in our society and what you can do to help.
