What Were The Best Super Bowl Commercials

Julia Kess

What makes a Super Bowl commercial good? Is it the flare? The celebrity appearance? The comedy? Super Bowl commercials are different from your regular commercials because of the millions of people viewing them at the exact same time. This is why it’s prime time for companies to be noticed, through celebrities, humor, or creativity. Let’s be honest, many of us pay more attention to the Super Bowl commercials than we do the game. In the spirit of that, here are seven of this year’s Superbowl commercials and the reasons I would rank them to be the best.

1. General Motors: No Way Norway
General Motors’ No Way Norway ranks as number 1 for a couple of reasons. Starring Will Ferrell, Awkwafina, and Kenan Thompson, the celebrity intrigue is strong. Will Ferrell stars in it as someone who hates Norway because it sells more electric vehicles per capita than the US. Will Ferrell’s hatred for Norway as he adventures across oceans to find it is extremely funny. However, anything with Will Ferrell, Awkwafina, and Kenan Thompson is bound to be hilarious.

2. DoorDash: The Neighborhood
DoorDash, The Neighborhood comes in as number 2 not only for starring Daveed Diggs and the cast of Sesame Street, but also for it’s catchy song and great visuals! The commercial takes on a trip through the neighborhood, and what a great neighborhood it is, with restaurants, flower boutiques and Big Bird!

3. Drake from State FarmWith guest appearances of Aaron Rodgers, Paul Rudd, Patrick Mahomes, and of course, Drake! How could anyone not love this creative State Farm commercial?! The humor, celebrity appearance, and flare of this commercial was overall better than anyone could’ve ever expected.

4. Rocket Mortgage: Certain is Better

In this funny and well shot commercial featuring Tracy Morgan and Joey Bosa, Tracy Morgan tells us why being certain is better than pretty sure in the best way possible, by using snakes of course! And wrestling, ghosts, and Joey Bosa’s parking spot. This commercial is very well executed with perfect delivery.

5.  T-Mobile: Adam Levine Sets Up Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton

You may see where this is going from the title of the commercial, but in this commercial Adam Levine Sets Up Gwen Stefani with Blake Shelton after hearing what she wanted out of a partner. However because Adam had a bad network he heard it all wrong! T-Mobile tells us how you don’t want your love life to rely on a bad wireless network making this commercial both funny and full of celebrity appearances.

6. Amazon: Alexa’s Body

Starring Michael B. Jordan. This Amazon commercial is both creative and witty. In this commercial Michael B. Jordan plays a “beautiful vessel” for Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa. When asking Alexa a question Michael’s eye’s flash blue and answers. The concept might be a little silly but no one can deny it works.

7.  Cadillac: Scissorhands-free

Timothee Chalamet and Winona Ryder recreate a skit of sorts from the classic movie, “Edward Scissorhands.” In this commercial, Winona revives her role as Edgar Scissorhand’s mother. Edgar is played by Timothee. Edgar leads a difficult life as a young man with scissors for hands that make him a public menace. Luckily Cadillac has a hands-free, cruise control function so Edgar can finally have his own car. This commercial is innovative and hilarious.

There were many more great Super Bowl commercials, (Bud Light, Last Year’s Lemons is an honorable mention) I hope you enjoyed!
