The time has finally come – 4 years later WESS is officially a part of the PSAL and the wait is finally over for high school student-athletes. The WESS Wildcats will be officially playing in the 2021 winter basketball season.
Even though many students have been learning behind a screen for the past 18 months there is still a lot of confidence among the team and their capability to make playoff contention. With that being said, it’s our first year playing competitively and it’s about time that our school made a name for ourselves within the PSAL.
Back in 2017 Coach Carlos had great success with our Middle School boys basketball team. Since then he has been waiting for competitive High School basketball to come to WESS and now he finally has the opportunity to coach a great group of student-athletes who are hard-working, dedicated, and determined.
“This team has great potential to excel this season even without having basketball hoops within our gym,” said Coach Carlos. “So far we are off to a great start.”
The varsity team has jumped right into the season, already playing a game against Julia Richmen and winning 49 – 47. There is optimism between both the players and Coach Carlos but the team will only be able to go as far as they want to go.
“On the court, we are defensive monsters,” said Coach Carlos. “We play aggressively to get the ball and capitalize on turnovers.”
So far, the varsity boys basketball team is off to a great start. Hopefully, this will be a strong season that will prove WESS can be a competitive player within the PSAL.
