WESS Side Stories

As the staff of WESS Side Stories (WESS’s student-run newspaper) we are reaching out to outline some ideas we have, and systems we are rolling out, to help keep the WESS community connected during the current outbreak of COVID-19. We want to invite students from 6th to 10th grade in the WESS community to share their work with us and email it to ([email protected])

On COVID-19:

Our school’s newspaper goal is to help the WESS community stay connected while we can’t be in the school building. This month, it is our priority to roll out a system through which members of the WESS community can share their experiences and thoughts about COVID-19, as well as other events that are taking place in their lives, around the world, and in the school community. In addition to accepting articles, we are posing a prompt to students: How has the coronavirus affected your daily life, and what are you doing to adapt to it?  Please email us your responses to be reviewed and published online. We believe that it’s important for students to document this event in their lives because it is undoubtedly one that will be talked about for decades to come.

What are we accepting?

We are accepting articles on the topics of News, Opinion, Sports, and Arts & Entertainment. Creative writing: Short Stories, Poetry, Creative Nonfiction, Short Plays, etc.

Multimedia Elements: Art (Drawings, Watercolor, etc.), Photo Galleries, Music, Videos, etc.

If you would like guidance on how to write each type of article/compose any creative writing or multimedia elements, please email us, and we will be happy to send you further instructions!

How to format submissions:

If you are interested in contributing to the WESS Newspaper, please send us an email, formatted as follows. In the heading, please write your name, grade, and the section your article idea is for (i.e. Jane Doe, 8th Grade, Opinion; John Doe, 9th Grade, COVID-19 Prompt). In the body of the email, please write two to three sentences about what you are submitting, along with any questions. We will be in touch with you about a timeline for your submission and how we can support you in its publication. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
